Katherine Symons time with Lady Upsadaisy

On the night I met Lady Upsadaisy, it happened to be a very special and spontaneous time in my life. I met Sheila Berry for the first time, the previous keeper for the painting. I happened to mention to Sheila that at the moment, artistically I am going through a very child-like process.  So that is how Lady Upsadaisy stumbled upon me. Lady Upsadaisy reminded me of myself and where I am in life right now. In limbo, floating up in the air, trying to find direction. Stumbling magically across events spontaneous and going with the flow.

For me I see Lady Upsadaisy carrying a lot of baggage and excess.  Her dress reminds me of a distorted heart.  She is trying desperately to find her balance in life.  To find a steady ground, a safe landing place.  Her little, delicate arm-like wings are fluttering so fast like tiny, 'flying ant' wings.  But they are too small to carry her heavy baggage. Though I see that she is strong enough to persevere and that she is having a bit of play in the process.

It is sometimes in chaos, mistakes, not belonging and falling out of place, where one eventually finds their true ground and becomes stronger.  Using their fullness and baggage to their advantage.  To gain fulfillment.

Well done Lady Upsidaisy!

I forgot to mention.  The photo's were taken in my little artist's studio which is shared with my father's writing study.  We live on a organic farm called Broadleaze organic farm.  We are situated just outside of Pietermaritzburg.  I thought hanging Lady Upsadaisy skew in the air, against the window would be significant to my interpretation of the painting. :)
